Over 1.9 Million Pilgrims in Baghdad to Mourn 7th Imam’s Martyrdom Anniversary

More than 1.9 million pilgrims have converged in Baghdad to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of the 7th Shia Imam, Imam Musa Kazim (AS).

The Astan (custodianship) of Imam Kazim (AS) holy shrine announced that the number of pilgrims has doubled compared to the number of those attending the mourning rituals last year.

It said more pilgrims are still arriving in the city to take part in the events in the neighborhood of Kadhimiyah in northern Baghdad.

Meanwhile, there have been tightened security measures to ensure the security of the pilgrims.

Violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq in recent years after Daesh terrorists launched an offensive in June 2014 and took control of portions of Iraqi territory.
