Al-Nukhba Nat’l Quran Contest Underway in Iraq

The 9th al-Nukhba (the elites) national Quran competition kicked off in Iraq on Sunday.


The contest, which will run until February 8, is being held for selecting top Quran activists to represent the Arab country in international Quranic events.

According to the website of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Kadhim (AS) holy shrine, the Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib Hall in the holy city of Al-Kadhimiya, north of Baghdad, is hosting the Quranic event.

A number of senior Quran reciters and memorizers from different parts of Iraq are taking part the competition, organized by the National Quranic Sciences Center affiliated to the Iraqi Shias Awqaf Department.

The opening ceremony on Sunday was attended by Sayyed Ala al-Mousawi, head of the Shias Awqaf Department, Jamal Abdul Rasoul al-Dabbaq, custodian of the holy shrine of Imam Kadhim (AS)and officials of Iraqi Dar-ol-Quran centers.

Addressing the ceremony, prominent Iraqi Qari Rafi al-Ameri hailed Iraq’s Quranic movement that has led to the emergence of Quranic elites in the Arab country.

Al-Mousawi also delivered a speech in which he stressed the need for drafting and implementing new programs for teaching the Quran with a focus on memorization and recitation.

This edition of the competition is being held with the motto of "Our Qaris, Our Memorizers Are Bright Lights of Our Iraq”.

The participants have qualified after showing the best performance in the preliminary round held in all provinces of Iraq.

Winners of the contest will represent the Arab country in international Quranic events.
