Iran to commemorate victims of Mina disaster

Iran will hold an international conference to commemorate victims of Mina tragedy which resulted in death of up to seven thousand Hajj pilgrims last year, senior Hajj official said.


The first international conference in commemoration of Mina tragedy victims will be held in Tehran from September 3 to 11, Head of Iran's Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization Saeed Ohadi said. 

The event will be attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, several foreign and Iranian figures and also the families of Mina tragedy martyrs, Ohadi said. 

According to him, the families of martyrs of Mina tragedy will also meet with Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. 

The Mina tragedy which resulted in death of up to seven thousand Hajj pilgrims was happened because of Saudi officials' incompetence, the official said. 

Saudi Arabia claims nearly 770 people were killed in the Hajj stampede but officials at Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization believe that up to seven thousand pilgrims, including 461 Iranians lost their lives in Mina.
