Iran Setting Up 400 Moukebs for Arbaeen Pilgrims

Iran is working to set up 400 Moukebs (resting places with special facilities and services for pilgrims on roads leading to Karbala and Najaf) for this year’s Arbaeen march.

Hassan Palarak, who is in charge of the popular contributions committee of Iran’s Arbaeen Headquarters, told Media that all the Moukebs will be ready to serve the pilgrims as of the tenth day of the lunar Hijri month of Safar (November 10).

All the 31 provinces of the country have been contributing to the efforts for establishing the Moukebs in Iraq to serve the Arbaeen pilgrims, he noted.

Arbaeen marks 40 days after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and third Shia Imam.

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias march toward Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites. Many of them also visit Imam Ali’s (AS) holy shrine in Najaf.

In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world, including Iran, took part in the mourning ceremonies in Iraqi holy cities marking Arbaeen.

This year, Arbaeen falls on Sunday, November 20.
